We are located next door to the Royal and Derngate theatres right in the middle of town, but we like to think of ourselves as more of a local pub than a town one. We pride ourselves on attracting an eclectic clientelle that all just want to enjoy themselves. No loud music, no binge drinking kids, just the bustling traditional pub atmosphere and the hum of conversation. There are board games to play on quieter nights, and usually when the theatres turn out there are plenty of interesting theatrical types coming in to keep people watching interesting. On Friday and Saturday nights everything moves up a gear, the beautiful people come out to play and we stay open until 1am.
The kitchen is run by Lionel and Ed and food is served 12 till 3 at lunch, 6 till 9 in the evenings, and all day Saturday. Have a look at the restaurant menu. We are very proud of the fact that we serve fresh food, all cooked on the premises. If there is a big show on at the Derngate pre-theatre can get very busy, but we give priority to booked tables so booking is always a good idea. We can seat 34 in the restaurant and loads more in the bar so you can always get served. We also have a tapas counter in the bar so even when the kitchen is closed you can have a bite to eat.
As we believe everybody should have a good time we haven't forgotten the smokers. We have a really nice courtyard garden with a big smoking area, all heated, and decorated with posters from shows that have been on next door since we have been here.
